Hydrate Hope is a grass-roots safe, clean water project that was started in 2007 by Matt Shepperd. In asking the question, “with all of the needs in the world, where do you even begin?”, Matt’s answer was to start with the biggest need in the world: a lack of safe, clean water.
“I realized that the need for clean water wasn’t new. And, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of water organizations out there doing incredible work. But, when I began to poll those around me as to their involvement in addressing this crisis, the numbers were staggeringly low. Almost everyone in my sphere were either unaware of the brevity of need or simply disengaged from doing something about it. So, we decided to throw a launch party, and start something that people I knew could join together and make a difference.” -matt shepperd
It’s all grown from that party in late 2007…a big party, that shared the need for clean water in the developing world. A few hundred people showed up, purchased shirts and made donations. The money raised at that first party restored several wells in Sierra Leone in Western Africa. Since then, relationships and opportunity have guided the way into Hydrate Hope’s current projects.
